Waverley School for Girls offers quality teaching and excellent facilities, including modern teaching suites, a sports hall, swimming pool, music school, a film studio and an open air theatre.

The school's motto is "Pride in our students, Pride in our school", combined together with a commitment to academic excellence and an emphasis on personal development and a respect for others.

The school is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment with all new facilities ready to be used in September 2004.

As part of this refurbishment plan, the network needed upgrading to meet the needs of current and future students at the school. It is imperative that schools are competitive and attract as many students as possible and ICT facilities seem to play a major part in the decision making role.

The school’s existing network had very limited connections, there were areas of the school that had no network access at all. The purpose of the new technology installed was to ensure their students and staff were using the most up-to-date gigabit Ethernet network and therefore had quick and easy access to the internet and the network at all times.

GPH Datacoms Ltd were recommended in the tender response for their experience in the education market, their flexible approach to installation times and their relationship with Mayflex which ensured a partnership that would fulfil all expectations.

Mr Tim Black, RCDD, Contracts Manager at GPH Datacoms Ltd also explained that, "Mayflex was chosen not just for the range of Planet Gigabit Ethernet products, and Excel LSOH Cat5e cabling products, but also for their assistance in providing a solution that fitted both the requirements and budget of the Waverley School."

GPH Datacoms Ltd. and Mayflex worked together with Mr Mukhtar to design a network that was going to fit the school's requirement and recommended products which would surpass expectation whilst staying within budget.

­The Planet range of Gigabit Ethernet switches coupled with the Excel structured cabling system has proven to be an excellent solution for schools, colleges and universities. Hundreds of educational establishments already have these products installed as they are high quality and have been designed to meet the budget constraints of such establishments, whilst also offering a 15 year system warranty.

The installation was carried out to extremely tight deadlines. There were electrical contractors on site, who had to install all the necessary containment, before GPH Datacoms Ltd. could install the Cat5e cabling. The project still had to be completed to the specified deadlines because installation had to take place while the pupils were on holiday or were out at weekends. GPH Datacoms Ltd. met these deadlines, as promised.

The Waverley School now benefits from a Gigabit backbone to all remote data cabinet locations, which in turn gives all students access to Gigabit Ethernet. In addition to this, all areas of the school now have access to the network, which they previously did not have.
