Parking Facilities Limited is one of the UK’s leading national installers and designers of car park control and access systems, specialising in the supply and installation of automatic  barriers, automatic security bollards, access gates, rising kerbs, manual barriers, height restrictors, speed ramps and much more.

In the middle of 2010, Parking Facilities decided to look into purchasing an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for their car parking equipment. They wanted a solution that could protect
against power splices or surges and would eradicate the problem of power outages to their equipment which could leave sites vulnerable or could trap car park users on to site.

After looking into different options, Parking Facilities chose to speak to AEG Power Solutions. AEG has designed UPS systems that provide protection against different kinds of power disruptions.  Parking Facilities was impressed with AEG’s range of products, and AEG suggested that Parking Facilities talk to Mayflex to purchase the products. Mayflex supports and services markets for IP communication solutions, covering cabling infrastructure, networking and physical security products and is a leading distributor of AEG’s UPS range.

The Installation
There was only a small area that Parking Facilities could mount the UPS on, so it was vital that the products bought were in a small package. From both AEG and Mayflex, Parking Facilities got support and advice, helping them through the purchase and installation of their products. Mayflex ensured that they would get products that were competitively priced and the right size for their limited mounting point, and provided an efficient delivery service.

AEG chose to use the AEG PROTECTA UPS 700va and 1400va systems. The PROTECTA series offers effective and economical data protection during power failure, dangerous power surges and voltage fluctuations. The products prove themselves in critical situations with their high availability due to sturdy overload and excess voltage protection, as well as a wide input voltage range.

As with any installation, Parking Facilities had to overcome some challenges through installing their UPS products, but with the support of Mayflex’s technical team and support from AEG, Parking Facilities was able to complete the installation of 36 UPS systems with relative ease.

Results
The key positive that the new UPS system has provided Parking Facilities with is that they can now offer a cost effective solution to their customers, where previously only an expensive alternative had been available, enabling them to prolong their stance as market leaders.
