Acorns Hospice

Mayflex is proud to support and help raise money for a very worthwhile cause, the Acorns Childrens Hospice.

Acorns Childrens Hospice offers a network of care to life-limited children, children who will not reach adulthood. Acorns also cares for the whole family with support services tailored for every stage. Acorns has three specialist childrens hospices to serve the West Midlands region, each a 10-bed unit. They are:

  • Acorns Birmingham (located in Selly Oak)
  • Acorns in the Black Country (located in Walsall)
  • Acorns in the Three Counties (located in Worcester)

Children use the hospices for nursing care, and can stay for short breaks, emergency and end-of-life care in the hospices comfortable home-from-home environments. Acorns has a Community Team who offer support to the whole family 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week, including practical and emotional support for parents, special help for siblings and bereavement support for as long as it is needed.

Acorns currently cares for over 600 life-limited children and their families. It estimates that a further 1,000 children with life-limiting conditions live in the West Midlands region who could be benefiting from Acorns services. Acorns has to find £6 million per year to fund its current service, and relies on fundraising for over 80% of its income. There is no charge to families whatsoever for the life-line services they receive at Acorns, but it costs £450 per day for a childs care. Life-limited children have a lot of living to do, Acorns aims to make every day extra special for the children and families it serves.

Mayflex has been working to raise money for Acorns for the last few years and with the help of our staff, customers and suppliers weve donated thousands of pounds through customer survey incentives, charity raffles, Christmas card donations and more.

Through 2009 and beyond Mayflex will continue to raise money for the Acorns Childrens Hospice and hopefully help as many children and their families as we possibly can.

Ride The Coast

Continuing our support of Acorns, Paul Cave (Mayflex's Market Development Manager) will be travelling the entire coast of the UK to raise £4500 in donation.

Ride The Coast 01It won't be an easy task for Paul to complete as it is estimated that the coast of mainland Britain, excluding all islands, is over 5000 miles with 60% of that coastline being located in Scotland and the off shore islands.

You can follow Paul's progress by logging on to his weekly blog which can be found at http://ridethecoast-acorns.blogspot.com/.

If you would like to support Paul's fundraising activity please visit http://www.justgiving.com/ridethecoast. Paul will also be visiting university's and colleges of further education along his route, if you would like him to visit your establishment to coincide with your own fundraising event, please contact Lisa O'Connell, Deputy Marketing Manager at Mayflex on 0121 326 2259 or lisao@mayflex.com.
