High acclaim for Mobotix’s Hemispheric Technology from Frost & Sullivan

25.9.2009Physical Security News

Mobotix’s ground-breaking initiative of providing the world’s first 360-degree, low profile, high resolution fixed security camera has been the focus of a recent white paper produced by industry experts, Frost & Sullivan.

Traditional analogue video cameras are becoming a thing of the past as a new generation of digital IP-based cameras are growing in popularity.  New IP cameras offer better performance, ease of installation, greater compatibility with other systems and are more cost effective.  There are many IP-based, megapixel cameras on the market today, all offering a higher resolution leading to better picture quality, but Mobotix have taken it a step further and, in a ground breaking initiative, have produced the world’s first 360-degree, low profile, high resolution fixed security camera.  Using the latest hemispheric technology, the camera can view and record a complete room or scene, capturing all events and information from any area of that scene in detail.

Just one fixed camera can replace several lower resolution cameras and produce a better quality image, with greater features such as motion detection, day and night operation, backlight handling and clear sound.

The white paper, entitled “A High Resolution Breakthrough in Public Safety”, examines the latest state-of-the-art solutions in video surveillance technology, with a particular focus on the technological and economic benefits to end users that are now available from Mobotix, one of the industry’s leading companies.  It examines the primary difference between the Mobotix decentralised camera system and other systems attempting to achieve this.  The benefit of Mobotix cameras is that they can perform all the hemispheric transformation functions actually inside the camera, meaning the vast raw images don’t have to be sent to a central computer.

Martin Morris, Security Sales Manager at Mayflex, comments, “Mayflex is one of the key distributors of Mobotix and we are so proud of the products.  Many people are deterred from upgrading to digital technology because they believe there are huge costs involved.  However, although a single digital camera on its own may cost more, the overall end user benefits outweigh the extra cost considerably.  Not only do users need far fewer cameras to perform much improved video monitoring, but there are virtually no maintenance costs and there’s no need for extra technology as the cameras are totally self-sufficient.”

The hemispheric camera from Mobotix has no moving parts and just a single lens focused on the entire room.  This means the camera is not subject to wear and tear and is completely silent, creating a discreet, aesthetically pleasing product with maximum optimisation.

In a world where CCTV is being increasingly used to cut down crime and improve public safety, greater and more sophisticated technology is a must.  With the new hemispheric technology from Mobotix, video surveillance is evolving and greater results are being achieved.
