Excel Wins Award for a Second Year Running

Excel Networking Solutions, the copper and optical cabling infrastructure provider, has been voted as Cabling Supplier of the Year for a second year running in the highly respected Network Computing Awards 2012.

The Network Computing Awards, which took place on 22nd March in London, have been running for 6 years and are particularly meaningful as they are voted for by the readers of Network Computing magazine - the people who use the products every day. They were set up to recognise the companies, products and services in the industry that have most impressed the readers.

Excel beat off stiff competition from Brand-Rex (runners up), TE Connectivity (formerly Krone), Belden, Nexans, Panduit and Systimax to take the award for a second year.

Andrew Percival, Managing Director, says, “Winning Cabling Supplier of the Year for a second year is a great achievement and we’re very thankful for all those that voted for us.” Andrew continued “Back in October 2011 we decided to give the Excel brand a complete re-fresh which not only improved the look and feel of the system but has really helped to position Excel as a leading player in the market place. Winning accolades such as the Network Computing award helps to reinforce this message and further demonstrates the considerable strength of the system.”

The award was collected on the evening by the Directors of Sales for the North and South, Ian Irving and John Twidell respectively.

Raytec Launches VARIO Lighting

CCTV lighting specialist, Raytec, has launched its new range of VARIO illuminators. VARIO is expected to re-define CCTV lighting thanks to a host of unique benefits.

VARIO illuminators allow users to adjust the output angle of an illuminator on site to a precise and pre-defined angle through a sophisticated VARIO optical system. A standard VARIO kit includes interchangeable lenses to deliver angles of 10, 35 and 60 degrees out of the box; enough flexibility to cover most applications. Other angles are available on request.

VARIO illuminators achieve longer illumination distances and allow cameras to produce better images than traditional LED illuminators thanks to elliptical beam patterns with hot-spot reduction technology (HRT). The HRT system delivers a highly diffused, elliptical beam shape to deliver more light where it is needed, generating both longer distances by minimizing light wastage and reducing overexposure of foreground objects.

An optional hand held remote control is available for VARIO. A single remote can operate multiple units and delivers access to advanced features including an LED status indictor to report the operational status of the illuminator. With set-up from ground level possible, the remote control makes installation quicker, easier and safer.

VARIO illuminators are available in Infra-Red and White-Light and are powered directly from 12-24V.

Net2 Anywhere from Paxton

Paxton has released an exciting new addition to its popular electronic access control system, Net2, which allows remote monitoring via an iPhone or web browser!

Hot on the heels of the September re-launch of its leading access control software, Net2 Pro, Paxton is proud to introduce Net2 Anywhere. Net2 Anywhere is a fantastic new online application within Net2 Pro, Paxton’s intelligent feature-rich Net2 software. Net2 Pro offers advanced features like building control, HR programs, sophisticated system integration, and now remote access, from anywhere in the world.

With Net2 Anywhere you can now monitor and make changes to your Net2 access control system via a web browser or specialised Net2 iPhone apps, so you don’t have to be at the central server PC to access events in Net2. Customers can now access Net2 from anywhere, make changes to Net2 on the move and maintain a certain level of control over their site remotely. This is great for businesses keen to keep their system administration rights to a minimum and perfect for customers who travel a lot and need flexible management.

Net2 Anywhere.com is easy to access via any major browser, and allows customers to monitor Events, Reports and Users in Net2. Events allow customers to see who is in the building at a glance and view all staff and visitor movements. Reports allow you to see refined building events like who has clocked in last, and last known position of staff and visitors. You can even add new users remotely, using a Net2 desktop reader.

Net2 Anywhere iPhone apps are exclusively available from the App Store and great value at just £2.99 each. Net2 iPhone apps include Open Doors, Reports, Timesheet, Users and Roll Call. Open Doors is a great feature that lets you open doors for any of your Net2 sites, from anywhere, as long as you have your iPhone handy. This is ideal for giving remote access to maintenance contractors or out of hours staff. Timesheet allows you to clock in and out using an iPhone; and request annual leave at the touch of a button; ideal for those who often work out of the office.

You can use the Roll Call app to generate roll call reports in the event of a fire or emergency at your building; this will ensure that you have an accurate list of safe and unaccounted for staff to pass on to the emergency services when they arrive.

One site making the most of the Net2 Anywhere features is Polhill Garden Centre; a family run business based in Sevenoaks that employs nearly 200 staff. Directors Mark and Pete use Net2 Anywhere to enable them to manage their site remotely when away from the garden centre on business. They use Net2 Anywhere to make changes to Polhill’s system using the Net2 iPhone apps. Mark and Pete get peace of mind, knowing that only the Directors have access to manage Polhill’s access control system; the perfect solution for any rapidly developing business.

Mark says: “We use so many of the features in Net2 Pro software; it’s now integral to the smooth day to day running of Polhill. Net2 Anywhere has certainly made our lives easier.”

Mayflex Refreshes Free Training for 2012

For those either new to or just getting started in IP surveillance, Mayflex’s free CCTV over IP training courses provide the ideal platform to learn the basics of this technology which is growing year on year at a substantial rate.

For 2012, Mayflex has refreshed the course and is splitting the single day out into 2 different courses offering both Sales and Technical orientated days, enabling people to attend the course that is most relevant to them. This follows the valued feedback obtained from those that attended the courses in the last year.

The Sales course is aimed at decision makers and sales people who want to know more about the features and benefits of IP and how they can sell it. Attendees will find out how to sell IP surveillance, focusing on the key elements that matter to end users. They will also gain the knowledge to answer some of the commonly asked questions when talking to end users regarding IP based systems.

The Technical Course has a more 'hands on' approach and is for engineers and installers who need to know what the products look and feel like, and want to learn how to build an IP solution. They will find out what all the terminology means as well as looking at the key elements involved in building an IP surveillance network. Through the mainly practical session they will see how simple it actually is.

Gary Harmer, Security Sales Director at Mayflex, says, “We take all feedback that we get very seriously and encourage suggestions on how we can improve. Those who attended the courses in 2011 felt that more focused sessions would take them one step further. Education and training is at the heart of what Mayflex offers and we want to make sure all of our customers have access to the right training that will enable them to sell and install IP based solutions on a 'right first time' basis. This is key in today's climate and is part of our added value offering.”

The courses are taking place in Birmingham, London and Scotland with the first dates in April.

To find out more and to book your place, contact the Mayflex Security Sales team on Freephone 0800 881 5199 or securitysales@mayflex.com.

ACTi has introduced a new 4-Megapixel hemispheric camera with a 360-degree ceiling mount view and 180-degree wall mount view.

The KCM-3911 is the perfect solution for applications such as retail stores, warehouses, petrol stations, train stations, lobbies and banks that represent rather complex environments. The new camera is capable of handling different lighting conditions for day and night time and it can look in all directions at the same time. It also offers a new 6-Region mode which enables higher sensitivity as you can have each of the regions streamed individually with different management and permission rules applied for each stream.

The KCM-3911 can also act like a PTZ camera with the special ePTZ mode. And thanks to the powerful ISP designed by ACTi, the spherical raw image is converted into a flat and rectangle-shaped image right within the camera together with restoring the normal proportions of the objects in the field of view. This way there is no need for extra processing on the remote software side, meaning the KCM-3911 can be easily integrated with any VMS in the world.

ACTi’s own software NVR (free up to 16 channels) and Standalone NVR will be ready to support all the special functions of the camera, such as panorama mode, ePTZ mode and 6-Region mode with any resolution.
